Australian Connections for Newmarket Winner
Mark Smith - Sunday, August 19, 2007

A two-year old colt with an Australian connection made an exciting winning debut at Newmarket on Saturday.

Racing in the colours of Princess Haya of Jordan, the John Gosden-trained Young Pretender (Oasis Dream x Silent Heir by Sunday Silence) made a one-act affair of a 6-furlong maiden, strolling home by three lengths.

A 175,000 guineas Tattersalls Yearling Sale purchase, Young Pretender is the first foal of Silent Heir, herself a $450,000 purchase by bloodstock agent Anton Koolman at the 2001 Australian Easter Yearling sale.

Silent Heir is the fourth foal of her dam, the unraced Sadler’s Wells mare Park Heiress, who was chosen by Arrowfield Stud to go to Japan for a mating with Sunday Silence to southern hemisphere time.

Silent Heir did her early education under the guidance of Oliver Koolman, including an official barrier trial at Rosehill.

However she never race here. She was exported to Ireland on February 8 2003 and made her first start eight months later, a winning debut at Redcar for owner Carl Holt and trainer Jeremy Noseda.
After finishing down the track at Leicester and in a Listed race at Newmarket, Silent Heir retired to the broodmare paddocks.

Her dam Park Heiress is a half-sister to former Glenlogan Park shuttler Shinko Forest and champion Irish 3yo filly Dazzling Park, out of the champion 2yo and 3yo filly Park Express (Ahonoora).

After conceding Acclamation and Choisir a sizeable start, Oasis Dream (Green Desert) is making a strong run at the champion first season sire title. Young Pretender is his twelfth first crop winner of the season.
