A three-quarter sister to HIDDEN DRAGON put in a dominating performance to win the Listed $126,000 Schweppes Agrum' Stakes (1200m) on Crown Oaks Day at Flemington on Thursday.
TAHNI GIRL trained by Ross McDonald and ridden by Mark Flaherty put paid to her rivals in the straight six race, scoring by a comfortable length and a half from Maxerelle (Luke Currie) with Sharp Aunty (Damien Oliver) a further length and a quarter away third.
Tahni Girl is by Redoute's Choice from Ballroom Babe (NZ) and her performance can only enhance the growing reputation of five-year-old stallion Hidden Dragon who is currently racing in Hong Kong.
"We bought Hidden Dragon for $700,000 at the Inglis Easter Sales (2001) on the same day we bought the full brother to Catbird, Bear Cat and they are both now racing in Hong Kong," said Anton Koolman.
"Hidden Dragon is by Danehill from Ballroom Babe (NZ) and he has gone outstandingly in Hong Kong. "He'll be coming back to stand at stud in Australia as will Bear Cat, but Hidden Dragon is now a five-year-old and I think he'll be back here ready for stud before Bear Cat will be," added Koolman.
Trained by Tony Cruz at Sha Tin, Hidden Dragon has won from 1000m up to 1400m and has won six and placed on seven occasions in Hong Kong, including six seconds from just 17 starts.
Tahni Girl has had just the 10 race starts with the filly scoring three wins (1000m - 1200m) and four placings for $397,000 in earnings.
Her stakes wins also include the Group III MRC HDF McNeill Stakes (1100m) and the Listed VRC Australian Cup Carnival Stakes (1000m).
