Hidden Dragon thrives in the Queensland sun

Hidden Dragon is down in the records as running ninth in the Group II BTC Cup (1200m) on Saturday at Doomben but trainer Oliver Koolman believes he should have got a lot closer.

"He got caught up in the interference in the straight with Takeover Target and I'm pretty convinced he would have finished a lot closer if not in the minor placings," said Koolman.

"But the main thing is he has pulled up really well and continues to thrive in the Queensland sunshine.

"He'll back up next week at Eagle Farm and as he didn't end up doing too much during the race on Saturday, he'll gallop 3/4 pace on Tuesday and then have a hit out on Thursday.

"Hopefully we'll get to gallop on the course proper at the Gold Coast.
Sydney jockey Larry Cassidy, who is fine form, will take the mount at Eagle Farm.

"It's a good time to see how he goes on the seven-day back-up as he has never done that before.

"If he goes well then we'll stick to our plan to run him the week before the Stradbroke and back him up again.

"If he doesn't, then we'll reassess the lead-up run into the Stradbroke, which of course is his main goal."

Hidden Dragon, a five-year-old stallion and son of Danehill, will either head to stud this year if there is a successful sale, or he may well head back to Hong Kong and run at the International meeting in December.

"We have had interest coming in for him both here and overseas so at this stage we'll wait and see what offers they are."

Hidden Dragon (x Ballroom Babe (NZ) (by Citidancer (IRE)) spent all his early career in Hong Kong where he won six and placed on seven occasions from just 17 starts.

He's had two starts in Australia in this his first preparation, but is sure to add to his earnings of $1,544,284 if his performance on the weekend is anything to go by.
