Tolo was first up and fresh as a daisy
After a couple of quiet months with very few runners, a lack of luck in running and a few bad rides we can only boast one winner, but a few minor placings which give us something to look forward to in coming weeks. The winner came in the way of "Tolo" at Newcastle on 3/9.
With only a "quiet Randwick barrier trial" under his belt, Tolo was first-up  in a Class 1 over 1200m at Newcastle. Tolo had been rested immediately after his impressive maiden win back on 2/6 at Gosford over 1600m where Hugh Bowman gave a glowing report on dismounting. At Newcastle, after jumping well, Tolo was run off his feet in the early stages and drifted back to last position. Tony Cavallo (jockey) patiently sat on the fence, biding his time, banking on the pace being strong enough for his mount to claim them at the right end of the race, well that's what he told me after the event! On straightening, Tolo was spotting the leaders 10 or more lengths and not sighted on T.V monitors. After a few choice words from Trainer to Trainers Wife about the jockey, Tolo( $8.30) appeared back in the screens of the on-course monitors to be seen running right over the top of the race  favourite, King's Stand, to win running away by 1 1/4 lengths. We will look at stepping Tolo up in distance after his 2nd run back on 21/9 when Glen Boss will have his first feel of him in a 1200m Class 3 at Rosehill.
