...on the recent race performances of Our Jetsetter, Peniki Park and Tolo we have three horses with their "foot on the till", so to speak, we can look forward to in coming weeks.
"Our Jetsetter" was the first to shine. Having her first ever race start in a Kembla Grange 3yo's maiden over 1200m on Saturday 17/9. From the outside barrier jockey Andrew Gibbons was forced to restrain her to the tail of the field before looking like getting close to the fence to avoid being trapped wide throughout the run. Turning into the straight and saving ground on the inside, he hooked her off the heels of tiring horses infront to give her a clear run to the line. It took her a while to balance and to realise what racing was all about before sprouting wings and making up many lengths over the final 30m to run into third place. Our Jetsetter will next race at her home track (Warwick Farm) over 1400m on the 12th of October.
"Peniki Park" Was the second of them to give us a taste of what she might have on offer when stepped up to the 1600m and even beyond. On Tuesday 20/9 at Warwick Farm having her second run this preparation, and with blinkers on for the first time, she stepped up to 1400m and put the writing on the wall for her followers. Glen Boss who was suffering from the flu was replaced by Jay Ford who was full of praise on dismounting. "She could win you a good race over 2000m this time in on that run, she settled real well and showed a good turn of foot entering the straight, she came to the end of her run about 100m out but stuck to the task right to the line". That was enough for us, we will now run her in a 1400m Class 3 for mares on the more spacious circuit of Rosehill on October 8.
"Tolo" made it the third to follow, on his performance at Rosehill on Wednesday 21/10. Ironically he was on a hattrick after winning his last two race day appearances on the provincial circuit. In stronger company he found the 1200m a bit sharp for his liking. With Glen Boss, from a wide gate, settling at the rear of the field Tolo made an honest attempt when given the opportunity to make up lost ground in the straight. The race was just not run at a strong enough tempo for him to run over the top of them. Glen Boss confirmed our thoughts with "Put him up over 1400m and he'll be very competitive, he'll benefit a lot from today". So it's off to 1400m we go, at Warwick Farm on 12/10, the short straight might not suit but he won't be that far from them on the turn with the easier tempo (we hope) of the 1400m. |
