Returnoftheking gave us a most rewarding victory at Canterbury Yesterday. Judging by the way he won it's a wonder how he managed to get beat on so many occasions at maiden and class 1 level on the provincial circuit. One thing Returnofthekings group of VERY loyal owners were prepared to do was wait for this good looking 4yo son of "Desert King" and "Blue Music" to mature.
Its often and easy said, by a trainer to an owner, or in this case about 20 owners, "just give him time to mature" when the trainer may have several other horses in his or her care to move the focus to. It was no different for this syndicate, often teased by "good runs" over the last two years Returnoftheking won once and placed five times in the provincials in 17 race starts prior to his last two wins. The $10,000 Scone Winter Yearling Sale graduate has now won $36,200 which goes a long way towards the cost of racing a horse based in metropolitan Sydney.
Returnoftheking will next start in an 1800m class 3 event at Randwick on Wednesday 15/2 on an 8 day back up.
Returnoftheking ran 3rd in the Randwick event on 15/2 and is now out spelling in preperation for the winter racing. |
