I don't know how often our competitors use this tactic prior to saddling up for a city event, but it seems to work for us. As our then stable favourite "Kiawah" (Desert King x New Smyrna) did a couple of years ago, this week it was another rather popular member of our team "Returnoftheking" (Desert King x Blue Music) who was the star of our annual "Horses Birthday Party" last Sunday. Returnoftheking offered Pony Rides to as many as a dozen keen young followers of our stable. Yes you better believe it, today's Canterbury winner "Returnoftheking" was prepared by a dozen kids from the age of 3-15 willing to do their bit for the stable by spending the best part of an hour jumping on and off a fine tuned race horse while their "brave" Mums and Dads either took photo's, said ooohhh & aaahhh, couldn't look or all of the above. It was all he needed in the way of work, being race fit we just needed to keep him happy. I guess he loves kids and Sunday offered just what the Doctor ordered.
