  Koolman’s winning run continues

By: Clinton Payne - Wednesday, August 09, 2006  www.racenet.com.au

Warwick Farm trainer Ollie Koolman has started the new racing season in great fashion and his winning run continued today at Canterbury with Shanghai Sally winning the book Online 3YO+ F&M C3 Handicap over 1100m at Canterbury.
Koolman has now trained winners at each of the three city meetings held this season including Returnoftheking, Tolo and today’s winner.
”The greatest performance enhancer in racing is a bit of luck and it’s unswabbable,” Koolman said.
”The trick now is to try and keep it up.”
Shanghai Sally was ridden along early to take up a forward position and settled on the rails behind the leader. As the field entered the straight, jockey Grant Buckley urged the Testa Rossa filly to go through a split which she duly did and with a couple of cracks of the whip she strode clear and held on strongly over the final 100m.
”She’s a filly that didn’t cost much money but the owners are having a lot of fun,” he said.
”We don’t have massive expectations with her but we’ll just continue to race her in her grade and she’s a tryer so that helps.
”If she pulls up ok she’ll back up in a similar class race at Warwick Farm next Wednesday.”
The runner-up, Lady With Attitude was an eye catching performance coming from last on the home turn to finish second in front of Northern Dakawho also came from well back in the field.
Shanghai Sally 53kg ($10 SP) (G.Buckley) defeated Lady With Attitude 53kg ($12 SP) (L.Meech) by a half length Northern Daka 53kg ($51 SP) (J.Taylor) a further three quarters of a length away in third.
The time of the race was 1.07.45 and the last 600m was run in 37.30.
