Former Hong Kong sprinter Hidden Dragon has made a timely start to his breeding carrer at Lyndhurst Stud near Warwick, coinciding with the emergence of his half sister Just Dancing as an exciting race prospect.
Just Dancing won the Group 2 Furious Stakes at Randwick on Saturday as a maiden when having only her third start, and the cavalier fashion of her win pointed to something even better to come.
Just as important from a breeder's point of view, she became the third black-type and fifth winner from five named foals from the Group 1 winning mare Ballroom Babe.
Anton Koolman purchased Hidden Dragon (by Danehill) for longtime Hong Kong clients as a yearling to race in Hong Kong and repatriated to Australia, is now syndicated amongst Queensland breeders, won at Group 3 and Group 1 second in Hong Kong, and Tahni Girl (by Redoute's Choice) won three times at Group 3 and Listed level in Melbourne.
Ballroom Babe's other foals, New Milestone (by Flying Spur) and Solo Turn (by Redoute's Choice) have been winners in Hong Kong and Japan.
Hidden Dragon, to date, has served the first 30 mares of his initial season in which Lyndhurst stud manager Jeffrey Kruger expects him to serve between 130 and 150 mares.
His 30th mare was Sea Of Light (by Octagonal) who is closely related to top NZ mare Champagne – and among other mares he has covered have been the recently retired Maizy May, prolific Northern Rivers winner Miss Ceanne, Domine's dam Hallelujah, Holding's dam Cheer Girl and Board Walk Queen who is related closely to Silent Witness.
