Dam of Karrakatta Plate winner in Foal to Bearcat
An impressive win by the Fred Kersley trained two year-old Roman Time in the Group Two WATC Karrakatta Plate at Ascot on Saturday has provided a great result for bloodstock agent Anton Koolman who purchased his dam for a client last August.

Roman Time is the second foal of well-related mare True Roman, a nine year-old half-sister by Is It True (USA) to stakes-winners Grey Man and Tolo Harbour, her grand-dam being champion mare Maybe Mahal.

The mare was secured for a Shanghai based client while in foal to Xaar (GB) and has since produced a colt foal last spring and been covered by the young Danehill (USA) stallion Bearcat, a full brother to Golden Slipper winner and highly successful sire Catbird.
The resulting foal will be a three-quarter brother to Roman Time, who is by Danehill’s ill-fated sire son Danetime (IRE).
Bearcat stands at Taunton Vale Stud near Bunbury in WA in the care of Kent and Nina Johnston and covered over 80 mares last season at a fee of $4,400.

With high fertility of 90% he will have plenty of runners to get his stud career off to a great start.

A $700,000 purchase by Anton Koolman (pictured) from the 2001 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Bearcat raced exclusively in Hong Kong where he proved a well above average sprinter holding the track record at Happy Valley for 1400 metres.

As a full brother to Yarraman Park’s prolific winner getter Catbird, Bearcat is a fine addition to the West Australian breeding industry.
